Upgrading from PNY 6800

So I'm looking to upgrade my GFX card. I was looking at the 8600GT and then I heard some negative things about it. I don't want to go ATI, and don't really know if going with a Direct X 10 card is worth it.
Any suggestions?

From a 6800 the 8600GT would be a faster GPU...by a fairly wide margin. But if you can spare another $30, go for the 8600GTS. It is about 25% faster.
I used Toms hardware's GPU charts for comparison.
HOWEVER...Nvidia is rumored to be coming out with a new line of GPUs in November. So if you can, waiting will net you either a better card or more savings, as the older 8000 series will most likely drop in price.

Nvidia's present cards are better. Compare an 8600GTS to an HD2600XT and the 8600GTS bests it by near 50% in 3dmark according to the GPU charts on Toms hardware.

Well, for starters, their drivers suck. Now while I cannot speak for ATI's newer video cards and drivers, I know from experience that ATI's drivers cause problems such as installation errors where the device (video card, tv tuner, etc...) is recognized by windows, but says the driver is incorrect when it is not the case. I've obviously found ways to get things to work in the past, but that's not the point.

Alright
I ended up buying the 8800GTS for 280.
It looks like I'm going to be set for a while.
