ASUS m3a78 PRO
« on: March 20, 2010, 06:38:36 PM »
I'm having some issues with my motherboard. I have 6 SATA ports, but in BIOS it only sees 4, this is a concern because I can't connect a new hard drive that I got. SATA ports 5 and 6 are the only viable one because my graphics card blocks the other two. My SATA controller is enabled in BIOS, and I have no other options than the collective knowledge of this forum, thoughts?

No, you have more resources (ie; google, asus website, motherboard manual).  Personally, I'd break out the latter to check one of the following:

1) There may be a jumper setting to enable the additional 2 SATA interfaces.
2) The 2 additional SATA interfaces may be part of the RAID controller that is onboard.  If this is the case, you'll need to enable the RAID controller and set it to standard/non-raid mode (which is possible on my old ASUS motherboard).

It's probably the RAID functionality though rather than a jumper setting because I know that is how it works on my ASUS board.

Yeah, I cheated, found a right angle SATA connector, plugged it in underneath my GFX card. Problem solved. However, now I can't prioritize which SATA device I want to boot from...which is annoying, I have to hit F8 Every single time.

i'm sure you can, check your bios settings and check your hard drive priorities. if not, start looking for the boot.ini file starting with the drive plugged into the lowest numerical port and edit the boot.ini to default to the OS you want.

Thank you GTC!!  Now, coldflame, fix your computer the right way or I'll just keep harassing you about it...  Figure out the issue...
