Quake III on Vista 64-bit
« on: May 02, 2009, 09:25:47 PM »
I just got a new laptop running Vista 64-bit and apparently I can't get Quake III to install on it.  Gives me an error just running the install app.  I suspect that the install app might be 16-bit.  At any rate, I don't have any experience with Vista 64-bit, so I'm open to suggestions.  I know it's an ancient game by today's standards, but I really love the game or I wouldn't care.

I figured out the issue.  The autorun on the CD is a 16-bit app which does not run on 64-bit editions of windows.  However, the setup.exe file in the quake folder on the CD is a 32-bit app and runs fine.  The game is working as of last night.

As for Vista 64-bit, I have no other issues with it, so I will continue to use it.  Plus, since I want to take full advantage of my 4GB of System RAM, I believe I need it.
