New Gaming Laptop
« on: May 02, 2009, 09:17:53 PM »
I just bought myself a new gaming laptop from Microcenter!
It's an HP dv series, got it on clearance for just over $600 and I'm Psyched!!!

Specs:
Core2 Duo 2.1Ghz
4GB RAM
gForce 8600M GS w/ 512mb Dedicated Vid Memory
17" Widescreen
Vista 64-bit
Full Keyboard w/ numeric keypad

What's sad is that since I haven't upgraded my gaming desktop in over 4 years, this blows it away...

Thanks..  I played Doom 3 on it last night with pretty much max settings, and although I didn't check the specific fps, it ran fine.

So anyway...I'm thinking about getting myself a nice Alienware laptop, fully loaded. (cost about 2700 -m17)

My question is, how much do you guys think I'll get for this laptop?

It's an HP dv7 series:
Core2 Duo 2.1Ghz
4GB RAM
gForce 8600M GS w/ 512mb Dedicated Vid Memory
17" Widescreen
Vista 64-bit
Full Keyboard w/ numeric keypad

I was thinking it's worth about $400 (plays games older than 2 years at high quality 40+ fps, this years games [ie: bad company 2] play low quality 40+ fps)...  I'm just not sure what to ebay it for.. Although, I'm still deciding if I'm going to get the Alienware at this point.

Opinions?

GTC, you're right, Alienware is overpriced... I decided against it...

Instead, I just ordered:

Asus G73HJ-X1
Core i7-720   2.6ghz per core Turbo Mode
8GB DDR3 1066 RAM
Radeon 5870 w/1GB GDDR3
17.3" HD Screen 1920x1080 resolution
Win7 Home Premium 64-bit
500GB 7200rpm HDD
Space for second HDD (which I will be installing second 500GB 7200rpm HDD)
HDMI port
DVD/CD RW
Full Keyboard

Cost: $1667 from newegg with overnight shipping and rush processing

Epic Win :)

Well, after a day with the new machine, I have to say.. IT"S AMAZING!!  It plays Bad Company 2 at HD 1920x1080 resolution at high graphics settings beautifully.

Also, my friends and I ordered a BF2 Server and 35 slot Ventrilo for our MoB (Masters of Bukkake) clan.  It will be up as soon as EA fixes the server issues and allows hosting companies to start new servers.
