GTC, it's not that easy...  Are you going to be able to build the necessary linux dedicated servers on your spare server?

The server is a 1U Dell PowerEdge 750 that misanthrope had given us last year. I had formatted it and threw on Server 2003 and installed the usual array of game servers. we "test drove" it at a LAN we were helping with at the NY Military Academy 2-3 months back, pop gave the thumbs up then.

if you're questioning my competency, then build your own server and bring it, you're more than welcome to.

My bad, I wasn't exactly questioning your competency though...  I didn't realize that it was already built (and when I say "built", I mean with game servers on it) and tested... that's all.  You didn't say that.  What you said was:  I have a spare server --this statement does not imply that it is setup already..  but it is, so awesome!

anyway, is there anything I can do to help?  Psi?

well, ive got a server, a 24 port switch, and a spare router. i think we're good on hardware.

i never said anything about a "spare" server.

Okay. Booking is confirmed. Sal had booked two rooms, I slimmed it to one room for two days starting at Saturday 10am (considering setup) with a noon time start. I just asked for the room until 6pm Sunday night. We can change that if needed since the room fee is per day, not per hour.

It's $600+tax total so if we can get 12 people it will be about $50 each. Obviously the more people we get, the less it will be.

At this point it comes down to making sure people are able to get there at 10am to setup (I can't, I work until 6pm and won't be able to get there until 7pm) and we need to hype/advertise the hell out of it. $hell seemed to be jumping on the bandwagon of getting a bunch of people to come. Keep that up. I believe the room can hold comfortably 25-30 people. Power has never been an issue - yet. But it might get hot, so dress appropriately.

So now we need people. Call everyone you know who would be interested. Spam your email contacts. Call your friends, neighbors. Post notes whereever you can. All we need is 20 people and we wall pay $30 each. Not too shabby, but we haven't had 20 people at a LAN in a long while.

OK, so I tried to ask for the day off on Saturday, a few days ago, but I've been asked to stay for half a day. The soonest I can get off work is at 2pm, that will get me to the LAN 3-4pm. Least I can go on Saturday! :p

Aight... Here's my deal... I can get to the LAN by 12 (no way I'm getting up earlier than 9am (sorry))... But, I don't have any of the equipment to setup (ie: switches, cables, server).  I can setup a server between now an then by the way, but I still don't have networking kit.  What game servers will we need that we don't already have?

Funny you should say that... because I was told today, I mean just now), that I should go ahead and re-apply for my job.  Basically, my role has been "transitioned" and if I want the new role, I should apply for it, like everyone else.

FYI all: If I'm jobless by the time of the LAN, I may not attend.  Obviously that would be the only reason I wouldn't be there...  I will keep y'all posted pending resume submissions and interviews next week.

ooh, that sucks. i hope all goes well and i wish you luck! i'll let you guys know weather or not i can come sooner than previously stated.
