As we near the close of JanLAN (Detonator was here!) we look forward to July and our summer LAN party. I hope to hype the living hell out of it and drag in more new people than old so we can really have a blast ala the original HallowLAN where we had more than 80 people over the course of a weekend.
Here are some things that need to be considered:
-
Name. We could use a good name for this party since we don't usually hold one in July. Toss some suggestions. Maybe we'll offer free entry or reduced entry to the person who comes up with a cool name?
-What
time do we want to start? Pop suggested maybe 4pm since getting up at the ass-crack of dawn sucks for people like us. This also gives people who work Saturdays less "lost lan time".
-We have two rooms reserved. Quick estimate is that they together can hold 50-60 people. I don't see why we can't get that with some major
advertising on the web and locally. Suggestions on how to spread the word are appreciated.
-
Cost....figure $30 per person. Might also be worthwhile to offer discounts for people who bring new faces to LAN, or multi-day discounts, etc.
-
Games.....we always seem to have issues with what to play. CS:S is a time honored classic that everyone seems to have. Perhaps make that an automatic game to place and maybe TF2 along with it. Obviously it will be easier to get good games going with more people.
-
Schedule. Other than time to start and end, we seem to work better as a whole when we don't try to stick to a set plan. A rough timeframe of tournaments might be worthwhile however if we have a large crowd.
-
Sponsors. I'm gonna try to get as many as possible to get more free swag to give away as prizes to people who come. Prizes = sexy = people like us more.

Right?
