Useful info i thought i would bring back from the dead.....got it form the old site.....had to use some of this on another computer.

OK... MSCONFIG is nice for stopping startup services but dosn't always do the job, also if you have hidden processes running you may not see them.

So here is a quick guide to cleaning up the crap...

First.

Go to this site and get CCleaner, or Google "CCleaner".

Check it out and learn how to use it through the help files.

This is the best FREE (Of ad and spyware too) utility I have found to date.

Second.

Uninstall all prgrams which are unnecessary, any program you don't use, or dont plan on using is unnecessary. Before doing this... lets unhide any hidded from a file which stores the information which "shows" you what is in the Add/Uninstall Panel (Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs). To get to this file you'll have to show hidden files (My Computer *in the file menu* Tools>Folder Options *View Tab on top* > "show hidden files and folders*).

Now you have to navigate to this file:
C:\Windows(WINNT)\*hidden*INF\sysoc.inf

Open it with notepad. Go to: Edit>Replace...>

Find What: hide
Replace: *Leave Blank* <--- don't type anything here dummy

*Replace All*

Save>Close.

Now go uninstall proggys.

Third.
Kill proggies which start when your computer does.

Start Run or  *Funky little key (Windows Key) between Alt and Ctrl on the left*+R

Type "regedit" and navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

On the right delete all the keys which you don't need. Read them they tell you what they are.

Restart.
