Interesting question
« on: June 12, 2008, 07:00:01 AM »
I've been looking for some time to make my Wii which uses component to output to VGA or DVI. However, I've been so far, unable to find a product that does this well, and cheaply. I'm looking for something with a $30 price tag or less...anybody know?

Yeah, I found a few, but they're all like 60 dollars.
Anyone know of like a cable or something?

Check this out.  It isn't an adapter, but rather a video cable for the Wii with both Component and VGA connections on the end.

Doesn't Wii output in HDMI as well? HDMI I believe is compatible with the DVI connections. Ie....you can output with the DVI connector from a video card to HDMI with only a cable, no converter needed. I'm sure the opposite must apply.

Nope, Wii is composite, s-video, and component.  Thats all.

Yeah
Someone suggested hooking the Wii up to an HDTV and setting the resolution to 480p
But I hooked it up to my HDTV, at 720p and it didn't recognize that it was HD. Weird.

i would say try hooking it up as interlaced not progressive. surprisingly not many tvs can do progressive. i suggest setting everything to minimum (standard def, non wide) and working upwards from there.

I tried, it didn't work, it didn't recognize that I had an 720p tv...so it was set at default, I think it's my monitor not supporting that resolution.
