Power Supply Calculator
« on: January 06, 2011, 12:43:47 AM »
Recently was doing some research on a CarPC (don't ask) and I found a cool calculator for determining the wattage of power supply needed for a system build. Thought others might find it handy. If you know of a similar/better calculator, post it and I'll mod the OP.

well, that depends on how you look at it. That scope is so narrow that it's barely close to ball parking a good usage rate. the amount of power drawn from the PSU really depends on the hardware manufacturer. That calc went from 62 with nothing selected to 200 with just the video card alone, Nvidia GeForce 260. I know my graphics card needed minimum 500W 36A on the +12v rail to feed it, stated right on the box. Cheaper brands 1) don't really state the minimum power reqs and 2) under power their GPUs. Lets not forget that some Vid cards are OCed out of the box. Also, It doesn't even have the GeForce 400 series GPUs on the list.

Now what I would like to see is if Toms hardware did a calculator since they blow through so many different pieces of equipment on a daily basis.
