XP SP3 sysprep
« on: May 28, 2008, 04:43:45 AM »
I'm gonna throw this question out there in hopes someone on here can give me an answer.

At my job we have images for each model laptop we use.  After updating the image we run sysprep so after imaging a laptop upon first boot you get the mini setup as if you just installed Windows.

Normally, due to all our laptops being Dell and Dell using volume liscenses, I am not required to enter a product key in the mini setup, nor am I required to activate with Microsoft.

However, thanks to SP3 that is no more.  It now requires that I enter a product key as well as activate Windows.  Normally this wouldn't be such a big deal, but when your imaging 10 laptops at a clip it can be quite time consuming.

My question is, is anyone familiar with some kind of work around?

I'm like terrified to go to SP3.
It fucked up my computer once before, now I'm scared again.

I have an idea for ya..

These labtops you getting come with a restore program that make you create a back up... try saving one and useing it on other labtops.. that are the same model...

or with the sysprep... there is a tool on windows server.. but if i am correct... it needs to have windows on it.. Btw I forgot the command..

well, if that's the case.... If it were me, I'd use Norton Ghost (I have a really old version 8.1 that runs in DOS :)  .... works very well ....

No, I never fixed it.  I just ended up updating up to SP3 without installing SP3.  I'm not gonna waste my time since it isn't critical to be completely updated.
