Weird CD issue...
« on: April 02, 2008, 02:42:03 PM »
Ok, I am officially stumped on this one.  I bought a new music CD yesterday.  Plays fine in my cars stereo, played find in my work PC running XP, played fine on a laptop running ubuntu.  Even played fine on my brothers laptop running Vista.  But when I put it in my laptop running Vista it cannot read the disc.  I tried more music cd's which played fine.  Checked software cd's, ran fine.

I tried deleting the drive from device manager but the same issue.

I am completely lost here.  Any ideas?

only thing that pops into my head is that the CD got registered to another computer or something but thats kinda far fetched.

it played on three different PC's.  If that were the case it would have only played on one.

Can you copy it to iTunes or something?
Try reinstalling WM? or whatever you're using? Bizarre.

It's like Windows doesn't even recognize it.  If I double-click the CD in 'My Computer' it locks up.

I just ended up ripping it on another pc and copying it over on a flash drive.

Is it a Sony made CD? If so it might be a problem with their bullshit copy protection crap. If you have a spyware blocker blocking it's installation, it might not play.

I don't believe it is Sony.  How would I determine that?  The bands record label isn't Sony.

The laser on your CDrom might be dying.  Any other issues with CD's on that laptop?

Thats the thing.  That was the ONLY cd that had issues.  Every other disc I put in works fine regardless if it is a video, music, or software disc.
