EVGA killed my computer!!!
« on: January 25, 2008, 03:31:10 PM »
ok, so. i just bought the parts to my new comp:

Western Digital Raptor X WD1500AHFD 150GB 10,000 RPM Serial ATA150 Hard Drive - OEM
ASUS Striker Extreme LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 680i SLI ATX
Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6850 Kentsfield 3.0GHz LGA 775 130W Quad-Core Processor
2 CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual
2 EVGA Nividia GeForce 8800GT Graphics cards

ok, so.  I started with just 1 GPU and 2 gigs of RAM.  eventualy, i got it to work.
so i put the 2nd GPU without SLI-ing them.  Worked ok, but viduals were funky.  So i get teh driver from Nvidia.com/blahblahblah, get the driver, install and reboot.

then.............BLUESCREENOFDEATH saying IRQL_NOT_EQUAL_OR_LESS_THAN

yea, that thing.
So I equated that to RAM problems and took out the 2nd GPU and ran Memtest84+

......after 2 hours, everything was passed.     So I'm guessing its the Nvidia driver i got.... but one problem: how do I get rid of it?  I get the BSOD right as I sign in.

Oh, running Vista Ultamite BTW (which shouldn't make a differance)

...........................................so what the ehll do I do????

It's the driver, I know this because I have the same problem with my sound card driver, it sucks so it BSOD's randomly, thus I get hte IRQL_NOT_EQUAL one too.
Nothing you can do other than to reinstall driver, uninstall get new ones etc. nice job on parts though.

Last time I started getting those errors, my motherboard crapped the bed.

Reinstall. If you keep getting them, suspect the hardware.

(You DID unplug your motherboard before you plugged and/or unplugged the video card right? RIGHT?)

vista's non-resolving issues like this usually has to do with the memory/ and drivers. you will continue to have these issues because nvidia hasn't done much to resolve this issue. i'm still trying to resolve this issue on my gf's pc.

*sigh*  So, several hours later: I added a 2nd (older and slower... IDE :( ) Hard drive and installed XPpro on it..... interestingly enough, everything works fine now
^_^

So yea, it is EVGA and M$ having a cat-fight and my MoBo was the stage.  I kept all my files in the origional Drive, just in case they fix the problem and I can revert to my 64-bit Vista Ultamite (which, btw, the only reason I want if for DirectX10....but nothing will use it for another 10 years anyway...except crisis)
