find an old one that still satisfies the course requirement, im assuming it has to have a built-in light meter and manual exposure and f/stop. you could either borrow one from someone, find a used one at a camera store (a real one, not a one hour photomat), or drive around looking for garage/yard sales and hope they happen to have one.
check out
www.pricegrabber.com and see if you can find a cheap SLR. i found my Canon Rebel K2 Kit (body, lens, and strap) for like $175 on there. i remember that a classmate of mine got her camera from J&R across the street from my school for like $200+ or something and when i told her how much i got mine for, she was like, WTF!!! so yea, look up a few cameras, check out how ppl like them, and then search for deals.
Photography is a fun hobby but it can get quite expensive. i went to cali this past summer and took like 4 rolls of shots (yea, i know "film? whats that? who uses it still?") and getting them professionally developed and high res scans were like $100 total. if you're willing to eat the price you pay, this hobby is TOTALLY worth it and a hell of a lot of fun to get into. i know i've posted my photo page on here somewhere but here it is again,
http://www.flickr.com/photos/gentsochiken and theres also
http://gentsochiken.deviantart.com/ (i use flickr more than DA so my more recent stuff will be there). theres some good stuff there but also a lot of crap.
i know cocoa commented on my photos on another thread but since this is a photo thread, ill respond here about it. the reason i have a bunch of pictures of the same rainbow is because i was doing a technique called bracketing. it entails taking the same shot but with slight variations, in this case changing the exposure setting. im sure you noticed that some were lighter and some were darker than others. i wasn't entirely sure which setting would bring out the rainbow yet not overexpose the shot and lose detail in the light areas.
i hope I've inspired you to really try photography with the information that I've bestowed upon you. if you have any questions, feel free to ask.
