Ok so I'm talking this class because i wanted to do some photography ( 4 LAN party's ) and i was thinking that the school would have cam's for you to use. Well now i know that, that happens to be a shitty dream. I know have to go out and buy myself a 200 camera. My mom gave me 2 choices, Get a job and get one, or drop the class. But I would really rather do nether of them.

What should I do, Do you guy's think theres a third option?

find an old one that still satisfies the course requirement, im assuming it has to have a built-in light meter and manual exposure and f/stop. you could either borrow one from someone, find a used one at a camera store (a real one, not a one hour photomat), or drive around looking for garage/yard sales and hope they happen to have one.

check out www.pricegrabber.com and see if you can find a cheap SLR. i found my Canon Rebel K2 Kit (body, lens, and strap) for like $175 on there. i remember that a classmate of mine got her camera from J&R across the street from my school for like $200+ or something and when i told her how much i got mine for, she was like, WTF!!! so yea, look up a few cameras, check out how ppl like them, and then search for deals.

Photography is a fun hobby but it can get quite expensive. i went to cali this past summer and took like 4 rolls of shots (yea, i know "film? whats that? who uses it still?") and getting them professionally developed and high res scans were like $100 total. if you're willing to eat the price you pay, this hobby is TOTALLY worth it and a hell of a lot of fun to get into. i know i've posted my photo page on here somewhere but here it is again, http://www.flickr.com/photos/gentsochiken and theres also http://gentsochiken.deviantart.com/ (i use flickr more than DA so my more recent stuff will be there). theres some good stuff there but also a lot of crap.

i know cocoa commented on my photos on another thread but since this is a photo thread, ill respond here about it. the reason i have a bunch of pictures of the same rainbow is because i was doing a technique called bracketing. it entails taking the same shot but with slight variations, in this case changing the exposure setting. im sure you noticed that some were lighter and some were darker than others. i wasn't entirely sure which setting would bring out the rainbow yet not overexpose the shot and lose detail in the light areas.

i hope I've inspired you to really try photography with the information that I've bestowed upon you. if you have any questions, feel free to ask.

You really should get into dA. It's so awesome, and it flexes your skills on art. Such as photography, in this instace.

Oh look! I have a dA account too:

dA has become a bit of a nazi group controlled by image nazi's.  At least Flickr still seems friendly enough.  Anyway, you can normally find good used cameras online or in the pennysaver/paper.  There also has to be a camera shop somewhere around where you live.

I think what happened to dA was that it got really popular and all the people that were there when it was a tight little artists colony got really pissy. Plus idiots would steal their art and photoshop signatures out and original artists would give a big sigh of WTF.

As for cameras, I dont know what the class requires but there's gotta be a way around spending $200+. Though having a part time job and getting a camera that can do you justice in the future is a nice option.

My digital camera was 'last years model' and therefore two hundred cheaper than original price and new version. I've had it for over three years and it still works great and it's all that I need and more. It was a good investment for long term.

Even if you had the digital, you couldn't use it for the photo class. As that class requires SLRs. Unless something has changed, and I am not aware of it?

fun stuff you can do with camera shake. try this, put the camera down, turn on the timer, if you have one, set the shutter speed for 30 seconds, put the F stop to the lowest setting (wide open), and take a picture of a friend or yourself and have them take their cell phone or a cold cathode (though a bit harder to do) and draw stuff in the air. it has a really cool effect.
