xx 7,500 online customers unknowingly sell their immortal soul.

A computer game retailer revealed that it legally owns the souls of thousands of online shoppers, thanks to a clause in the terms and conditions agreed to by online shoppers.

The retailer, British firm GameStation, added the "immortal soul clause" to the contract signed before making any online purchases earlier this month. It states that customers grant the company the right to claim their soul.

"By placing an order via this Web site on the first day of the fourth month of the year 2010 Anno Domini, you agree to grant Us a non transferable option to claim, for now and for ever more, your immortal soul. Should We wish to exercise this option, you agree to surrender your immortal soul, and any claim you may have on it, within 5 (five) working days of receiving written notification from gamesation.co.uk or one of its duly authorised minions."

GameStation's form also points out that "we reserve the right to serve such notice in 6 (six) foot high letters of fire, however we can accept no liability for any loss or damage caused by such an act. If you a) do not believe you have an immortal soul, b) have already given it to another party, or c) do not wish to grant Us such a license, please click the link below to nullify this sub-clause and proceed with your transaction."

The terms of service were updated on April Fool's Day as a gag, but the retailer did so to make a very real point: No one reads the online terms and conditions of shopping, and companies are free to insert whatever language they want into the documents.

While all shoppers during the test were given a simple tick box option to opt out, very few did this, which would have also rewarded them with a £5 voucher, according to news:lite. Due to the number of people who ticked the box, GameStation claims believes as many as 88 percent of people do not read the terms and conditions of a Web site before they make a purchase.

The company noted that it would not be enforcing the ownership rights, and planned to e-mail customers nullifying any claim on their soul.

xx Hallow LAN 4 - Times Adjusted
October 15, 2008, 03:53:57 PM by Popsikle
The HallowLAN 4 times for this weekend's LAN have been adjusted.  The doors will be open sometime around midnight Friday (12:01 AM EST Saturday) and go until just before midnight on Saturday (11:59 PM EST Saturday).  The original times were form 10AM Saturday until 10PM Saturday.  This allows us 12 more hours of gaming.  We owe the hotel lots of thanks for helping us out with this.  If this format works it might be the one we choose for all 1 day LAN's going forward.

Hope to see you there!

exclamation New Site Layout and Features.
September 13, 2008, 04:02:59 PM by Popsikle
Today I upgraded the site a bunch.  Lots of things changed which will help all of us take this site and LAN's to the next level.

The list of thing that changed are:
  • New Forum Upgrade - The Forum got upgraded to the lates SMF beta (2.0 b4) which includes lots of new features which you will start to see over the coming weeks.  It is also alot faster then the old beta
  • New Webserver - I moved this site to a faster more powerful server that I own.  My company http://www.therealms.net/ graciously donated some space on a brand new box.  NO MORE DREAMHOST
  • New DB server - While we moving we upgraded to a new DB server as well, no more waiting for page refreshes!
  • New Content Management System (TCMS) - TCMS (Tiny Content Management System) was developed by me over the last few years.  It is designed to be fast and completely modular.  This was the first integration with SMF I had done with it and now we can add all sorts of modules to bring more traffic to the site (the LAN module is still in development but has been activated to give you a taste of what it will do)
  • New Theme - It was time to shed the old younger look and move on to a more adult, easy to use look.  The base theme was created by DzinerStudio but was heavily modified to work with SMF 2.0 beta4 and TCMS
  • WAP - Significant increase in Mobile Browsing Speed

All that being said, there WILL BE some bugs, please post them in the bug report section.

The Revolution is here!

Revolution is a strong word. Its a word to describe the rebirth of something good into something great. You are all seeing this page because you are/were a part of something good, well now its time to be a part of something great.

Over the last few years there has been both an explosion of LAN's in our area, and a decrease in the amount of "regular" lanners. We want to do something about this, we miss the old days of LAN's before they got too Commercialized. We miss the getting together just to LAN, to have a good time, and not worrying about sponsors, prizes, ect. We miss the communities the most. This site includes LAN Admins from alot of LANs in our area (Tristate/Northeast Region) as most of them have shown a great interest in a Coalition of sorts.

From here on out you have LANs working as one, to create the best community we can. Any drama or hostilities you have seen in the past, is gone. Its time to restart with something fresh, something new. This is it, the revolution. It has begun, lets usher in a new phase of our communities by joining them as one.

Over the next few weeks this Site will take its full path on. Once the dust settles and we know where everyone stands we can start adding features and such, but for now, just go get yourself registered, make an introduction thread and hold on tight, its goint to be a crazy ride.
